Principal's Message
Please accept a warm welcome from me to each of you for the upcoming year. As your new principal, I am very excited to meet you and spend time getting acquainted with parents, students, and staff members. I have many years of administrative experience and come with a passion for helping all children succeed. I enjoy working with families as partners in education.
Each Wednesday, our schedule is 9:40 a.m. - 2:50 p.m. (9:10 a.m. is the earliest students may arrive on campus.) On Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday our schedule is 8:15 a.m. - 2:50 p.m. (7:50 a.m. is the earliest students may arrive on campus.)
Attendance is a very vital part of your children's education. Not only is it a state law, it is important for your children because every late, tardy, or missed school day creates learning "holes", missed work, additional stress on your children's education, and a disconnect from school. Students may begin to feel schooling is not important.
It is critical with any late, absence or tardy that you communicate the reason with the school. Any absences must be reported within 5 business days. Please call the school at 566-1880 and leave a message for absences - it's easy!
We have three overall expectations at F.C. Joyce: be safe, be respectful, and be responsible. We work hard everyday for students to use these skills and make our school a safe, non-violent place for learning. Thank you in advance for helping us to maintain these three ideals in your homes as they will carry over to school and assist with learning.
We are looking forward to creating a wonderful school experience for your children this year. Maintaining high expectations for learning, for positive choices, and for each other will help us to succeed.
Mission Statement
The mission at our school is to facilitate quality learning for all students through high academic, technological, and social standards to prepare them for life-long success. We are committed to offering students a safe and secure environment that has the students' academic growth as our focal point.
Curriculum Development
All curriculum development in the Twin Rivers Unified School District is based on the California State Content Standards and Frameworks. Curriculum guides are updated regularly by the Educational Services Department to align with the state standards, district goals, and the statewide assessment program.
School Leadership
Leadership at Frederick Joyce Elementary is a responsibility shared between district administration, the principal, instructional staff, students, and parents. The district’s emphasis is on a well-balanced and rigorous core curriculum at all grade levels. Instructional programs are aligned with state and district standards. Leadership duties were assumed by Principal Kelli Hanson. Staff members and parents participate on various committees that make decisions regarding the priorities and direction of the school plan to ensure instructional programs are consistent with students’ needs and the school plan complies with district goals.
Parent & Community Involvement
The School Site Council is made up of teachers and parents. Their duties include reviewing the school plan, approving the yearly budget and providing an opportunity to help the school better understand the community's needs. The English Learner Advisory Committee meets to provide information on how to better assist our students who are still learning English as their second language. Classrooms have room parents and volunteers that are always welcome. Arrangements can be made through the office or by classroom teachers.
The Latino Family Literacy Project is offered to parents. The goal is to support literacy and provide a bridge between schools and the family.
